The transition to a decarbonised economy is an important accelerator of growth and technological advancement in the energy industry, as well as generating a positive environmental, social and economic impact. At the social level, new employment and requalification opportunities for both individuals and communities will be seen in industry, compensating for the reduction of jobs in certain segments.

We fully support the principles of a just transition (just socio-ecological transition) so that no one is left behind, even in the short term, and we are aware of the social impact of our climate strategy, which represents a broader commitment in line with the Group's approach to respecting human rights along the value chain,  as also set out in our Human Rights Policy.

The Enel Group, of which Enel Chile is a part, signed the United Nations letter of commitment to a just transition and the creation of decent and "green" jobs in 2019 by:

  • promoting social dialogue with workers and their trade unions, respecting workers' rights, promoting social protection and providing wage guarantees, in accordance with International Labour Organization (ILO) standards;
  • work with suppliers who respect these standards, contributing at the same time to the social and economic development of the local communities most exposed to the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energies.

Our action plan for a just energy transition

At the heart of our strategy is the goal of helping to build a fairer and more inclusive society along the entire value chain, while protecting the environment in which we live and creating future opportunities for the company and our stakeholders, leaving no one behind.

We are committed to managing this transition through a strong and ongoing dialogue with trade unions to put into practice the principles of just transition as they affect everyone directly involved in the process, in particular through the conversion of plants to coal and related sites.

Enel Chile is committed to a just energy transition, reconverting the skills of its employees and communities

At Enel Chile we are committed to contributing to a just transition, leaving no one behind, promoting the creation of sustainable and decent jobs, for which collaboration between the government, the private sector, civil society and other stakeholders is essential.

Enel Chile has support mechanisms for certain segments of the population to help pay the cost of electricity, in order to allow equitable access to energy, as well as a wide range of energy-efficient products that help consume less energy and produce fewer emissions.

The Supplier Development Program is an Enel initiative whose objective is to promote the sustainable development of its suppliers, so that its production chain is more solid, efficient and innovative, and to guarantee compliance with the strategic objectives of the Enel Group. Suppliers play a crucial role in achieving the energy transition objectives that the Group has set for itself.

With this program we seek to meet the needs of the Business Lines for their main purchasing categories, ensuring the availability of high-performance suppliers.

Development Focuses towards suppliers:

  • Alignment with the Strategic Pillars of the Enel Group in Sustainability and Circular Economy.
  • Increase in the scope of action of suppliers to other Lines of Business.
  • Dimensional Growth, Development of operational and productive Capacities.
