"The world must move towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. According to the Paris Agreement, to do this, we need  a massive increase in the electrification of final energy consumption demand. One thing we all agree on is that we need to electrify as much as possible while supporting this process with decarbonized energy. We see electricity playing a prominent role even in sectors it has never been present before."
Fabrizio Barderi CEO

The Enel Group was one of the first signatories of the "Business Ambition for 1.5°C" campaign, promoted by the United Nations and other organizations, and we are committed to developing a business model in line with the objectives of the Paris Agreement (COP21) to limit the increase in average global temperature to 1.5°C. In 2022, we confirm the acceleration of our goal with the ambition Zero emissions to 2040 for direct emissions.

The Enel Group, of which Enel Chile is a part, has also confirmed its direct emissions target in line with the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C as certified by the Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative.

OUR PROJECT "ZERO AMBITION"
Enel has two key objectives: to further improve the mapping of all direct and indirect emissions, while increasing accuracy and transparency in reporting; and define a path to reduce our carbon footprint between now and 2040, setting emissions targets in line with the path to 1.5°C.
Our response to the challenge of climate change is based on a resilient and sustainable business model. To support it, we have adopted an organizational and corporate governance model that establishes the specific roles and responsibilities of Enel Chile's main governing bodies.
Our direct climate impact actions are carried out in line with the Paris Agreement. In particular, our policies aim to promote the electrification strategy from decarbonisation and pursue climate objectives by involving stakeholders such as government representatives, industry associations, academia and non-governmental organizations to promote the Group's vision in relation to climate and low-carbon policies.

Enel's carbon footprint in 2022 was 6.63 million t CO2eq (increased by 1% compared to 2021), this increase is given by the detailed accounting of scope 3.

In particular, the Scope 1 figure was 4.85 million t CO2eq (6.6% less than in 2021), which represents 73.1% of total GHG emissions (99% of which come from the production of thermal energy).

Scope 2 reached 0.012 million t CO2eq (18% more than in 2021), 50% corresponds to self-consumption of energy.

Scope 3, which represents 26.7% of total GHG emissions, reached 1.77 million t CO2eq (30.3% more than in 2021). This year, Scope 3 was expanded to include 2021 and 2022 figures related primarily to emissions from fuel extraction and transportation, including end users.

Enel's leadership in the fight against climate change is recognized by the CDP

Our inclusion among the climate change leaders of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) with an A- assessment represents recognition of Enel Chile's role in the fight against climate change and our position as a leading company in the transition to a zero-emission energy system thanks to our sustainable and integrated business model.
